Newsflash

WildFest SA Program Overview:  The program offers something for everyone:  lectures, workshops, and field trips; cycling, paddling, hiking, birding, and star-gazing activities; special events at the San Antonio Zoo, Bracken Bat Cave, and other unique locales within San Antonio and the surrounding areas; and self-guided and structured events along the renowned River Walk, at the San Antonio Missions  National Historical Park, and at other cultural, natural, and environmental treasures.

The festival will be held at venues throughout Bexar (pronounced “bear”) County, from Medina Natural Area and Mitchell Lake Audubon Center in the south to Government Canyon in the west, Fredrich Park to the north, and the Botanical Garden just northeast of the heart of downtown San Antonio.  Field trips, workshops, and seminars will focus on birds, plants, bats, history, art, archaeology, geology, water and other topics linked to nature.

To make WildFest San Antonio a success we need all kinds of people to contribute, volunteer and participate. Please choose a link from the WildFest San Antonio Contacts List that best describes your interest in being a part of WildFest San Antonio or for whom you want to contact for any other reason.

We am currently soliciting volunteers for WildFest San Antonio and reminding those wanting to be a participant to put it on the calendar. If you can help spread the word about our upcoming event with affiliates within your organizations, neighborhoods, and businesses via emailing, we would greatly appreciate it!

This year’s event will be headquartered at Lion’s Field, 2809 Broadway, in San Antonio. This event offers participants an opportunity to experience local natural and historical sites as well as to learn more about these exciting environments through lectures, workshops, and field trips. Those wanting to volunteer can choose to assist with registration, serve as room monitors for seminar/workshop speakers, and/or serve to assist leaders with field hikes/activities. Shifts will be offered in approximately 4-hour slots mornings, afternoons, and evenings during the Festival. Program details will be available on the website by March 21st at www.WildFestSanAntonio.com.

To volunteer please contact: Judit Green, TPWD Urban Wildlife Office, (210) 688-6444 or email her by clicking here.

For those of you only wanting to attend the event as a participant, please register via the website after March 21, 2008 or at Lion’s Field during May 1-3, 2008. On-site registration at the event of your choosing will also be an option for those making a last minute decision to join in—however, if slots are filled, you may be turned away, so sign up early if you can.

Please spread the word about this event—we want others to experience and appreciate our beautiful natural resources that we have around San Antonio!

Hope to see you in the outdoors!
