January 3, 2009 - 9 am to 11 am:

Eisenhower Park Walk

19399 NW Military Hwy. Join us for our new year with a natural and cultural history interpretive walk through the hill country at Eisenhower Park. It may be warm and sunny and it may be snowing.  Come enjoy the park in the winter possibilities!

Reservations are recommended, as the hike will not be conducted if there are no pre-registered participants. Call (210) 564-6400. Participants are limited to 15 per hike. For groups of 8 or more please call to schedule a separate hike. Meet at the restrooms near the parking lot in each park. Be sure to BRING WATER to drink! A donation of $2 per person is suggested.

First Saturday Interpretive Hikes are planned to give people an introduction to the natural and cultural history of four of San Antonio's Natural Areas. They are conducted at Crown Ridge Canyon Natural Area, Eisenhower Park, Friedrich Wilderness Park and Walker Ranch Historical Landmark.

Reservations are recommended, as the hike will not be conducted if there are no pre-registered participants. Call 210/564-6400. Participants are limited to 15 per hike. For groups of 8 or more please call to schedule a separate hike. Meet at the restrooms near the parking lot in each park.

Be sure to BRING WATER to drink! A donation of $2 per person is suggested.

Many programs have limited space so reservations are recommended. There is a suggested individual donation of $3.00 per individual or $5.00 per family.

Getting to Know Our Feathered Neighbors

Voelcker Park, 12000 NW Military Hwy. - Many people enjoy watching the birds outside the window in their yards—squabbling over a seed, splashing in a puddle, or cruising around the flowers. Why are humans so interested in birds? Because they are our neighbors and we have so much in common! Bring the whole family and join Texas Master Naturalists and avid birders, Tom and Patsy Inglet, to find out more about your feathered neighbors, to explore your interest in birds, to learn the basics of binocular use and bird identification, and to discover many places to enjoy our feathered neighbors in and near San Antonio.

A Perfect Red

Crownridge Canyon Natural Area Walk

7222 Luskey Blvd. - Join us for a natural and cultural history interpretive walk at Crownridge Canyon Natural Area. the Texas buckeyes are covered in early, large palmate leaves.  Come welcome spring!

Neighborhood Birds

Monarch Madness

Medina River Natural Area, 15890 Hwy 16 South - the Mysterious Life Cycle of the Monarch Butterfly. Join Monika Maeckle and her love for the Monarch butterfly. Learn about growing milkweed, raising caterpillars, hatching chrysalises, and tagging Monarch butterflies as they make their way to Mexico. It’s all part of the mysterious life cycle of the Magnificent Monarch Butterfly.
